Make Up Your Mind (about your business)
Being a business owner is a top goal for the women in my tribe. I know you understand, because you’re here on my blog, reading this. You are, or want to be, a full-time business owner. Congrats! I may be biased, but it’s the coolest thing in the Universe to work for yourself.
But I need to make something very, very clear. You have to know what you want, or you’ll never achieve it. So let me ask you…
More...
"Are you a hobby or a business?"
If someone watched you working, would they recognize a solid, quality business? Or would it look like a hobby or part-time “trial”. These are the tough questions you need to face. How serious are you about your success? Are you serious enough to keep going with it no matter how hard it becomes?
Now, I’m not a parent, buuut, I’m going to use a parenting analogy. Stick with me here. If parenting became super hard, would most people quit? I doubt it. I ask this because, being an entrepreneur is my passion in life. I don’t quit it. Ever. It is what I am when I wake up each day. I can’t imagine a life where I don’t work for myself. It would feel wrong. Is that how you feel about your business too?
I’ll tell you, the last time I had an employer was in 2003. Since then, I’ve supported myself with my business(es) - yes, there’s been more than one over the years. Sometimes I had to survive on ramen noodles, but that’s OK, because I was doing what I loved, working for myself.
Luckily, the ramen days are gone. You know when you learn something new, and everything clicks into place and you think, “omg, that’s so easy! How did I miss that before?” Well, that’s how I feel about business. It’s so easy. No lie. I want to tell you everything I know (and I will, one blog post at a time, promise), but right now it’s so very, very important that you learn this one simple lesson;
The world will only take you as seriously as you take yourself. So if your business is a part-time effort, easily abandoned when things get rough, then you’ll never make the big time as a super-cool girlboss. #truth
It’s time to think hard about what you truly want out of this, your one life. It’s OK, whatever you decide, just be true to yourself.
Here’s an exercise to help you figure it out. When you’re faced with a tough life decision, like if you should quit your job and be a full time entrepreneur. Or if you should move to a new state. Or get a divorce. There’s one question you need to ask yourself,
"What kind of person do I want to be?"
Your truth lies within the answer.
If your answer is to be an entrepreneur, then I’m happy to meet you, soul sister. I’ll see you back here again for more advice on how to take the world by storm.
